应地质过程与矿产资源国家重点实验室蒋少涌教授的邀请，德国马普化学研究所A.W. Hofmann教授来我校访问并做学术报告。

报告题目：Where did all the subducted sediments go?

报告简介：In this talk, Prof. Hofmann will discuss the extensive evidence for sediment subduction in the geologic record and then look for the evidence for recycled sediments in mantle-derived basalts. The only mantle rocks that show evidence for recycled sedimentary material are the so-called EM-1 and EM-2 basalts. None of the other OIBs or MORBs contain significant amounts of recycled sediments. So in fact the convecting mantle contains very little recycled sediment. This brings up the question given in the title of the talk. The solution of the problem might be found in a new model of continent formation recently published by Kelemen et al. (2016, Nature Geoscience), which involves a process called relamination, whereby subducted sediments form melting diapirs which rise to the base of the pre-existing continental crust and are relaminated as pelitic granulites.

A.W. Hofmann教授简介：

国际著名的地球化学家，主要从事同位素和微量元素地球化学和地幔地球化学研究。在Nature, Science, EPSL, GCA等国际一流杂志上发表了200多篇论文。曾任德国马普化学研究所所长，获得过Harry H. Hess奖，V.M. Goldschmidt奖等多项国际学术奖；是地球科学高被引学者。
